The Honda S-meeting

I've just got home 2 hours ago from a over 600 km trip each way to a Honda S metting. It was a very succesfull metting. About 50 Honda S600 and S800 came to the metting. Also 3 Z's and a NSX and a Beat was at the scene.

We arrived at friday afternoon at 9 pm after a 11 hour long trip. We were stock near Hamburg for nearly 2 hours in a trafic jam :-( We got something to eat and talked to some of the other S people and then headed for our hotel 5 km from the track.

Next morning we arrived at the racing track (really a Gocart track) at 9.30 am. The weather was perfect and first there were a small briefing by Michael Ortmann (cheerman in the German Honda Club) and then we were going to warm up for the "race". The first thing out on the track was just pratice. We were split up into 3 teams and send out on the little track. Unluckely we (Me, my father and one of our frinds, who also got a S800 Coupe in small boxes) did not got ready in time for the practice so we missed it. We only brought the yellow coupé to the race, becaurse otherwice it would be too expensive. So we had to share one car. No problem.

The next thing on the track was you drove from the pit round the track and stopped at the start/finish line. 2 cars on the track at the same time and the when the flag dropped you had to drive one lap around on time and then go to the pit again. some time later when it was your turn again you did it again. Then you got two lap times who had to be as close to each other as possible. I've started, but the car was only running on 3 cylinders on the most of the lap and the it was ok the rest. So on the second run when it was going on all four cylinders that time was a little faster and I were to far away from the first time. Our frind got a 8 th plase with 0.8 seconds and my father got a 2nd plaze with 0.23 second.

The next thing on the track was Slalom. We did not compete in that practice.

The last thing on the track was to set the fastest time. You drove one warm up lap and got a flying start. One lap and into the pit again. You only got one try. My father finiched 5th With 1,13,54 and 4th with 1,12,95 a guy in a very nice conv. set up for race with 62 mm pistons, race cams 5 speed gearbox, lowered very much (only 6 cm from the frame to the ground in the front) and a lot of other things. Our frind in my fathers coupé was 3rd with 1,12,85 and I finished 2nd. also in my fathers car with 1,12,07 and 1st with 1,11,97, a red coupe with 62 mm , race cams, and 95 HP, 5 speed gearbox racing on slicks. So all in all a very good results from my fathers standard engine. The only thing the is done to my fathers engine is the cylinder head is straighted out in the intake and exhaust. Ofcouse our Limited slip diff. was a great help on this curcuit and we got Yokohama 185/60/13 A008RS tires on the car and it lowered a little by the torsionbar in the front and some koni dampers and a little lower springs in the rear. The engine got 74 HP the last time it was messured. But it was with a bad pistonring and poor compression on one cylinder. Now it got some lighter old stock Mahle standard pistons, and new rings, so it mayby got a little more. We also have made an K&N filter in England specialy for the S800, using the metal from an old original filter.

Later that day there were a gocart race and then we had to vote for the nicest car in 2 classes. Coupe's and Cabr. You had to whoose 6 cars and the car with most points won. It was very hard because most of the cars are in very nice orig. condition.

After that it was possible to race the track in small Gocart. Then we went back to our hotel to get a bath and then we had dinner at the track, with all the other Honda people. We resived some winner trofas (pokals) for our racing and a S800 cabr. toy car. We were back on our hotel at 2 AM and were very tired.

On sunday we was back on the racing track at 9.30AM and packed out things and put the racing car back on out trailer. We said goodbye to all the other people and then headed for home. Some of the others were driving a small trip around the nice area and looking on the nature. We were a bit tired and got 600 km ahead of us.

We got home a 8.30 PM today (sunday) and are preaty tired now.
